Imagine commerce halted, transportation disrupted, and nation-wide protection crippled. This is life without a reliable positioning and navigation system, such as Global Positioning Satellites (GPS).

GPS currently provides navigation for aircraft and ships across the globe. About 90% of world trade is transported by sea, and most ships lack a robust back-up navigation system.  In addition, data in signals from GPS satellites regulate ATMs, cellphone towers, and electrical power grids.

The effects of losing GPS would be the collapse of commerce and communication, disruption of transportation on a global scale, and the crippling of military capabilities. Viziv’s Zenneck surface wave technology can be used to develop a much-needed complement and potential replacement to GPS dependency, while requiring less infrastructure, using less energy, and avoiding the use of expensive satellites. A single tower transmitting a few thousand watts could provide a strong signal and cover a region up to the size of the entire continental United States.

  • Improved signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in forest, mountain, and urban canyon environments means fewer towers needed than Hertzian alternatives and superior coverage in less than favorable conditions.
