Randall Jean, Ph.D. was introduced to Viziv Technologies in 2013 when he was asked to complete an external evaluation for a prospective investor group. In 2018, after his external work with the company as a technology validator and advisor, he joined the Viziv staff full-time where he currently serves as Senior Research Fellow.

Prior to joining Viziv, Dr. Jean taught for 15 years at Baylor University within the department of electrical and computer engineering and has been honored as Professor Emeritus. While at BU, he taught undergraduate and graduate courses in electronics and electromagnetics and served as the ECE Graduate Program Director.

Dr. Jean is the holder of more than a dozen U.S. patents and corresponding foreign patents in the field of microwave applied metrology, which have resulted in scientific and industrial instruments for a wide range of sensing and control applications. Industrial products based upon these inventions are in use world-wide.

He has over 40 years of doctorate-level academic and industrial experience in the field of electromagnetics, remote sensing, and sensor development. In 1994, he received an R&D 100 award, recognizing the most significant technology developments of the year, for his invention of Guided Microwave Spectrometry. His research has included the development of microwave sensors for biomedical, industrial, and scientific applications and the development of wireless power transfer using Zenneck surface waves.

Dr. Jean earned his B.S. in electrical engineering in 1970, his M.S. in electrical engineering in 1971, and his Ph.D. in electrical engineering in 1978 – all from Texas A&M University.
